The Long game and feeling overwhelmed

Doing work that matters actually does matter

In fact, getting really specific about the change we seek to make is vital

With getting really specific comes the resolve and accompanying anxiety of choosing one path

It requires a trust in the process however trusting the process requires that there is a process

That we don’t just take on the dilution all approach that it will simply happen

It requires that we stay ever mindful

It requires a focus

It requires that we hold ourself and our team accountable to DO THE WORK

Understanding that the long game is won day by day, drip by drip

What is executable is all that matters

Focusing on the goal means not getting stressed and taking a shortcut

It means that it’s never about a all at once, storm the shores approach

Instead, it’s always about shifting culture

Day by day, drip by drip, engage, care, listen, repeat

Before we get excited it’s essential to script the first quarter so to speak of our 90 minutes

To start our 90 minutes in zone coverage before we see what the opposition brings to the pitch

The script- simple- executable- drip by drip

A framework

Becoming a unit of execution

Because after all it’s very rarely if ever a sprint

It’s a race and having the endurance matters when we hit those walls and hit them we will

So let’s start with Them

Let’s start why the Change we seek to make

Let’s look at the vehicles and nuances within them

Let’s show respect for those platforms

Let’s illustrate a worthiness of trust

Let’s not look rushed

The long game

Now pick- what is the change You seek to make- go make a Ruckus 😊

a game in perception

I woke to a beautiful spring morning

But it prompted a reflection that has been in my brain since I was a young boy

The quote is “perception is reality ”

But are we looking through similar lenses?

What if what I call green differs from what you call green?

What if we are not really all that connected?

What if left to me and left to you in reality are completely different

What if we see only fixed to our perceptions

What if we hear only fixed to our understandings

What if what we hold as reality is only perception?

I know it’s exaggerated but doesn’t this illustrate what we need to realize when we do this work we set out to do?

When we seek to truly empathize would it be best to go to edges and then settle back to reality

I don’t know but what would you do , say and how would you act if the assumed could no longer be assumed?

2018 Paradox

In business and within brands there seems to be a chasm presently, maybe a space between the old Industrial and the new connection. Within this is the opportunity to become a Linchpin, a Anomaly.

  1. Leadership vs Management- No-one is inspired to be managed, boxed in, watched and told what to do. For years the industrial economy taught us that their was safety and security in being managed- but that really never was. it made us a COG, a number, a easily replaced one at that. sure when I speak with a retail chain manager a a big supplement retailer who has dismal sales and ask what can his store do, contribute and stand out to his community he assures me that any attempt to stand out is and has been squashed by ‘corporate” – yes this is industrial machine at its managerial best! The worst and a reminder of exactly why mattering more, taking risks really isn’t that risky at all!

Leadership- Thats where we all win! We strive to make a impact. We encourage people to be special snowflakes because we all are. We take a team of workers and empower them each as individual snowflakes. We strive to develop a culture within our walls. It in my humble opinion is where I see so many good intentioned get it so wrong.

Invest in making your greatest assets happy – your TEAM, then create a environment where each one contributes something that empowers them, builds their personal brand and thus making a super culture where the company benefits and ultimately creates a Tribes of totally loyal fans

This is why dysfunctional unfunded startups beat highly funded corporations- In the early stages the dysfunctional startups have one huge advantage – connection/ realness and care

-Your brand isn't a list of features and benefits
-Your brand isn't guaranteed placement
-Your brand isn't guaranteed our trust or loyalty
-You are not welcomed to spam me
-If I do not trust you I don't care what you cost monetarily because the true cost is what will I tell my friends ( Tribe) and what will I tell my boss
-Marketing is about taking frequent calculated shots
-Marketing is ideally a one on one , eye to eye relationship- scaled
-Only scale to where you are still in the conversation actively
-Show empathy because it matters to you Not because it's the word of the hour.
-Generosity matters most when it's done in privacy

-If you don't take time to daydream you are limiting yourself considerably
-Always ask What if? Why not? How can we?
-Habit destroys many , be the car that swings a UTurn, turns off that side road, after all it's the journey isn't it?

Just some ramblings I thought I'd share

Why I LOVE the edge

The “thing” about what they leave out

the things they avoid telling us

they say things to uplift

they say things to mislead

they live on building false hopes

false hopes that crumble when tested

They tell you you can eat whatever you want and still attain your target body

Not True

They tell you that you can undue years of neglecting your health with a couple capsules

Not True

They tell you a $9.99 juice a day can replace developing a taste for wholesome foods

Not True

They tell you a Organic seal on a fruit from South America means more nutrition inside that that local farms “un certified” fruit

Not True

 

Always telling you what they think will get a short term approval, sale, endorsement, vote

and Unfortunately they leave out the piece, the thing, the magic …WORK…..EFFORT…EXECUTION….INTENSITY…

There is a great way I can personally explain this

In training I have always been a disciple of the Arthur Jones High Intensity school of bodybuilding

The sexy parts you see in magazines, HIT Training- massive muscles in minutes, one set to “Failure”, train for muscle in 30 minutes or less

WOW, 1 set to “failure”

So appealing, since the average person REALLY has a grip on what this entails…They do NOT

What it means, What it looks like, I will video the way it looks

Effort, Intensity, the juicy bits they purposely leave out

Its found in a bucket your puking in because you cannot breathe another breath

Its found in literally not being able to even more that bar another inch

its where the Juicy Bits are

In training

In life

In it all

they leave out what most always Trumps talent- WORK, EXECUTION, TENACITY its nice to talk MED (minimum effective dose)

BUT that only matters once you set the standard of EFFORT

Then its a Force Multiplier

because in a era where being “Best in the world” matters you better be able to tell us your reason for existing..

I like to be much more blunt when I speak to brands

“WHY does your brand exist? and why should Anyone care?” If that cannot be expressed honestly and directly in a sentence or If the terms opportunity, marketshare, market survey comes up- END it there because you are a fraud

remember there are (2) types of STORY and in the short run both work

  1. Manipulation- this is all about the money, marketshare, cash, and not about US the TRIBE the ones who will seek and embrace realness
  2. TRUTHFUL- thats #Remarkable that #Matters thats all about #MORE and that we will drag across the finish line if you embrace us too! Speak UP!

remember- no-one drives a hour to by commodity products…nobody waits on line for ubiquity…sorry…

the greatest factor is to me “Do we mean it?, Do we care? WHY should anyone else care?”

Lastly I find that too often high level thought leaders forget the Tribe doesn’t like or enjoy supporting the Pompous and Arrogant.

Assume nothing…Engage Engage Engage

because it matters

Exercise #Emapthy especially towards your #Tribe and honestly Know who your Tribe actually is..CARE

Just because you taught the greatest product, service , tech etc doesn’t get you the win

It doesn’t get you our dollar, our Vote, our Love and support

You still have to shake some hands and  oh yeah  MEAN IT!

but Honest & Truthful work

I can honestly say that it has to be about more

It has to be about generosity and a truly empathetic approach without a bias

but its not easy

but nothing worth it ever really is, is it?

If it was easy everyone would do it

IF everyone was doing it

it wouldn’t be special , remarkable would it?

several years back I was part of a group that was truly #remarkable and always stayed #limitless in #Mindset…until…

Then they bought into a theme of #Ubiquity ( the campaign was actually titled operation Ubiquity)

everyone should of taken heed

the remarkable nature of their #Gift was homogenized

It doesn’t work that way

Its about the gift and the true gift holds integrity

Integrity means not compromising for profits

At this stage in my life and career its honestly more than ever about MORE

Its about being a true advocate of the True STORY….

I always thought I was a salesman…but Im just a Storyteller…

I love it

Today I woke with the lizard bearing down on me

It was horrible

and when it rains it pours

Then something happened, Isaw my called ID light up…a great friend from the ranks of #altMBA

I picked it up and what transpired was a great wake up and soon I was trekking back on pace…here I am crushing keys at 11pm

Time to do some reading and prepare for a Strong start tomorrow

Everyday is a battle

and we need to remember that
